Children & Adolescents

Childhood and adolescence are periods of rapid growth and development, during which the body is constantly adapting to changes in height, posture, coordination and physical activity. Osteopathy can provide supportive care throughout these stages, helping children and teenagers maintain mobility, balance and healthy movement patterns, both when symptoms arise and as part of a preventative approach.

Children and adolescents are naturally resilient, and their growing bodies can often adapt and compensate remarkably well. However, these adaptations can sometimes mask underlying areas of tension or restricted mobility, which may go unnoticed until they begin to affect movement, posture or comfort.

For young athletes, particular attention can be given to the effects of repetitive training, growth spurts and changes in sporting activity. Osteopathic care may help address areas of muscular tension, joint restriction or imbalance and support recovery following minor sports injuries, alongside appropriate medical or physiotherapy care when required.

Children and adolescents may benefit from osteopathic care for:

    • Growing pains and musculoskeletal discomfort
    • Postural imbalances and asymmetries
    • Back, neck and shoulder pain
    • Joint stiffness or restricted mobility
    • Sports-related muscle strains and minor injuries
    • Tendon and overuse-related pain
    • Tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow and other elbow overuse injuries
    • Osgood-Schlatter disease and other growth-related conditions
    • Sever’s disease / heel pain
    • Knee, ankle or foot pain
    • Hip and pelvic discomfort
    • Repetitive strain and training-related tension
    • Recovery following sports injuries
    • Headaches and tension-related discomfort
