A CONSULTATION
An osteopathic consultation begins with a detailed case history, allowing the osteopath to understand your current symptoms, taking into account your medical history, previous injuries or surgeries, lifestyle and any factors that may be contributing to your condition.
This is followed by a thorough clinical examination, which may include observing posture, assessing mobility and asking you to perform specific movements or stretches, alongside orthopaedic and neurological tests where appropriate.
The osteopath will then explain their findings, clinical assessment and diagnosis, and discuss an individualised treatment plan with you, including the expected benefits and limitations of treatment.
Treatment may involve a range of hands-on techniques adapted to your individual needs, including deep soft tissue, structural, visceral, fascial and cranial approaches.
Where appropriate, your osteopath may also provide self-care advice, stretching and strengthening exercises, ergonomic recommendations and lifestyle guidance to support recovery, maintain mobility and help prevent recurrence. If necessary, referral to another healthcare professional or further investigation may also be recommended.
